Michael Jordan is widely considered the greatest basketball player to ever live. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1963 and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan is the youngest of five children, and his father was a mechanic for General Electric. Jordan's family was not well off, and he was raised in a very humble environment. Jordan found solace and an outlet for his energy and talent in basketball, and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He was a standout in high school, and he went on to play college basketball at the University of North Carolina. During his college career, Jordan made a name for himself as a fierce competitor and a clutch performer. He helped lead the Tar Heels to an NCAA Championship in 1982, and was drafted into the NBA the same year.
